Abstract (en)

This text, written for the fifth centennial of the sermon of Antón de
Montesinos, makes a short description of the environment of the epoch
and the problems around the religious man for raising the question
“Are these not also men?”. In addition, it makes a brief journey through
some historical and bibliographic moments in which the same question
is asked, showing that with it the humanity of others is put at stake,
as well as of that who answers, thus founding the ethics of otherness.
Finally, the text shows briefly the struggle of de Las Casas in Spain
for the humanity of natives from the New World, as well as the pride
Dominicans should have this struggle.

Abstract (es)

Este texto, escrito para la quinta fecha del Centenario del Sermón de Antón de Montesinos, hace una corta descripción de lo que giraba en torno de la época y los problemas que tenía a su Alrededor Antón de Montesinos al plantear una pregunta como “Estos ¿no son hombres?”. Además, se hace un corto recorrido por algunos momentos históricos y bibliográficos en los cuales se plantea la misma pregunta, mostrando que con la pregunta se pone en juego la humanidad del otro y también al de quien responde, fundando así la ética de la alteridad. Por último, el texto evidencia brevemente la lucha de Las Casas en España por la humanidad de los indios del nuevo mundo y el orgullo que deben tener los Dominicos por esta lucha.
