Abstract (en)

This study analyzed the interaction between socioeconomic, sport and educational factors in the balance between sport and education of 81 elite Brazilian athletes. Data collected through a questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics and tests of association (Fisher’s exact, p < 0.05). The majority belong to classes A and B, with Bolsa Atleta[1] as their main source of income. Women have a higher expectation of reaching a high level of education (p = 0.029). University athletes from private institutions are more likely to win medals, especially gold medals (p = 0.021). The lack of tutoring, class substitution, and curricular flexibility hinders this balance. This highlights the need for strategies that provide effective support to Brazilian student-athletes.

[1] The Bolsa Atleta program is a Brazilian federal government initiative that provides financial support to high-performance athletes, helping them continue their training and competitions.
