The author of Crónica de una muerte anunciada has intentionally chosen one event important enough to take the reader beyond the anecdotes to discover a topic that embraces a social reality more complex than the “misfortune”, a narrative element which is very important in the plot from which the writer develops the work. It is suggested in the work the thesis that being the owner of his/her free will and to make use of the freedom given by it like Ángela Vicario did and to a lesser extent Bayardo San Roman is the only way not to be subject to those implicit social rules determined by a tradition which, many times, is absurd, illogical, and irrational like recovering the lost honor by killing the attacker, the plot in Crónica de una muerte anunciada

Abstract (es)

El autor de crónica de una muerte anunciada intencionalmente ha elegido un sólo acontecimiento, lo suficientemente significativo para que sirviera al lector de puente que lo llevara más allá de la anécdota de lo contado, y le descubriera una temática que encierra una realidad social mucho más compleja que la "fatalidad", un elemento narrativo, importante sin duda alguna en la trama, ya que a partir de él el autor desarrolla el tema de la obra. En el tema, se plantea, en última instancia, la tesis de que el ser dueño de su libre albedrío y hacer uso de la relativa libertad que él nos proporciona, como al final lo hicieron Ángela Vicario y en menor medida Bayardo San Román, es la única forma de no estar sujetos como individuos a aquellas normas sociales implícitas, dicta­minadas por una tradición muchas veces absurda, ilógica e irracional, como la de recuperar el honor perdido con la muerte del agresor, eje narrativo en crónica de una muerte anunciada.
