Abstract (en)

The objective was to compare the different types of physical activity practiced by Brazilians during leisure time (LTPA) in urban and rural areas. Data from people aged ≥ 15 years old interviewed in the 2019 National Health Survey were used. Seventeen types of LTPA were evaluated according to residence situation (urban and rural), gender, age group, and macro-region. Prevalence and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated in the Stata SE software, version 17, considering the design and sample weights (svy command). There was a higher prevalence of bodybuilding (16.8%; 95% CI 16.1-17.5) and aerobic gymnastics (5.1%; 95% CI 4.7-5.5) in urban areas, and football (24.4%; 95% CI 22.9-25.9) and walking (48.2%; 95% CI 46.3-50.0) in rural areas. Such heterogeneities in the types of LTPA must be considered when developing public policies for both health and leisure.

Abstract (pt)
