Bartolomé de Las Casas: una mirada política de la encomienda

La figura de Bartolomé de Las Casas es problemática, oscila entre los extremos que ven en él un Santo militante en la causa de la humanidad o un demente guiado por complejos narcisistas más que por un sentido humanitario hacia los indios. Tras la maraña de interpretaciones, diatribas y apologías tejidas durante casi cinco siglos, su pensamiento ofrece terrenos aún inexplorados en especial su última etapa de maduración al interior del iusnaturalismo salmantino. Desde esta perspectiva, su tratamiento del problema de la encomienda trasciende los aspectos morales para ofrecer una mirada política que tiene como supuesto la consolidación del Estado
absolutista español, y la reproducción problemática de prácticas medievales en el gobierno de las indias.
