Abstract (en)

Henri Lefebvre's profound statement (2010) —“Social space is a social production” (p. 47)—allows us to understand that sustainability, far from being a symbolic element linked to ephemeral and temporary politics, is closely related to community resilience, not simply as abstract concepts, but as facts and actions, as concrete results of our material and symbolic organization; of our inhabiting the world. In this sense, alluding to Kozlarek (2015), we advocate for a critical modernity that is reconfigured from a humanism aware of its limits and potentialities; that is, a rational and practical sustainability of our contexts, histories, and differences. Together, these theoretical perspectives critically illuminate the studies gathered here, allowing us to read them not as isolated initiatives, but as diverse manifestations of the same urgency: to reorient the production of space toward logics of social space regeneration and justice, in the new complex perspective of human coordinates within the Earth system.
