In addition to this, they must be unpublished, original texts and may not have been submitted to a peer review process in another publication. Manuscripts must comply with a minimum of 20 pages and a maximum of 30, in Times New Roman font, 12, and double space with margins of 2.5, including the final list of references, in APA citation and reference.
The journal is open to receiving the following types of content:
- Research articles: Document that presents results of finished research projects. Its structure consists of introduction, methodology used, results and conclusions.
- Review articles: Document resulting from a literature review on a particular topic, from which the author generates an analysis and reflection on this topic. It is characterized for presenting a thorough bibliographic review of at least 50 bibliographical references.
- Reflection articles: Document that presents research results from a critical or interpretative perspective by the author; or a subjective analysis thereof on a particular subject.
Additionally, the journal receives other types of publications such as:
- Bibliographic reviews: Document where the author synthesizes and reflects on the main points of a recent bibliographic work.
- Short essays: Document where the author expresses his/her point of view on a particular subject, relying on documents and publications to support or refute ideas. As with research articles, it consists of an abstract and keywords (in Spanish and English) and is structured as follows: introduction, development of the topic and conclusion.
Structure for bibliographic reviews
The purpose of the bibliographic review is to briefly describe an academic work, the subject from which it is situated and the purpose thereof. Similarly, to make a critical analysis and report on its value and relevance to the corresponding area of knowledge. Must contain:
- Title of the book to review
- Book information: Author(s) of the book to be reviewed, ISBN, Editorial, year, number of pages
- Review author
- Extension: Maximum 5 pages
Structure of articles
Research articles must be structured in the following order:
- Title: Must be clear, direct and specific (maximum 15 words).
- Name of the author, ORCID code, maximum academic degree achieved, current institutional affiliation and email (preferably institutional).
- Abstract: A paragraph that includes between 150-200 words. It should summarize what is addressed in the work: make reference to the objectives of the work, the methodology used and the results, and should not include citations or abbreviations. Must be in Spanish and English.
- Keywords: Maximum six, corresponding to those established by the Unesco Thesaurus. They should not match the words of the title, the idea of these is to facilitate their search and classification in indexing systems. They must be ordered alphabetically, and like the abstract, must also be in Spanish and English.
- Nature and origin of the article: For articles resulting from a research, it is necessary to mention the entity that sponsored it, or in any case, the institutional conditions in which the results reported therein were obtained, for example: in the development of a personal thesis to opt for an academic degree, as an advance of a university research line, within a private consultancy work, etc.
- Introduction: The approach of the problem, the objectives, the justification, a brief state of the art and the theoretical or conceptual framework are presented.
- Methodology: Written in past tense. The research techniques used are presented, context where the study was carried out is explained (who, where, among others) and how the data was collected.
- Results and discussion: Written in past tense. The results of the study are confronted and argued with literature.
- Conclusions: Presents the main findings found in the research and must respond to the objectives set. Bibliographic citations should not be included.
- References: The format of the journal Campos en ciencias sociales is based on APA standards 6th edition with modifications, both for the creation and for the standardization of citations and bibliographic references in the manuscripts. The citations in the text are ordered chronologically and must correspond entirely to the references quoted in the text.
- Annexes: Allow the reader to understand and reproduce the work presented in the article. Can include: surveys, demographic data, interview tools, etc., as well as multimedia elements that can be viewed in the OJS, such as videos, photographs, interview audios, etc. Annexes should be quoted within the text and not at the end.
- The images included in the article (photographs, drawings, maps, diagrams or statistical graphs, etc.) will be received in separate files (.tif, .jpg or Excel), with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and the corresponding footnote indicating the source from which it was obtained. Tables or charts should be sent in editable format (word or excel).
- The articles and their complementary material will be received through this portal, prior online registration, or in case of technical difficulties, in the email [email protected]
In a separate PDF file, the authors must send letter of assignment of economic rights, with signature, in favor of the Santo Tomas University, Colombia, which will not prevent the author(s) from verifying and approving style corrections and other changes introduced to the text during the editorial process.
Bibliographic references
For citations and bibliographical references, the manual of the American Psychological Association -APA- should be used in its sixth edition in Spanish. The citations in the text are ordered chronologically and must correspond entirely to the references cited in the text. A citation is the partial expression of ideas or statements included in a text with precise reference to its origin or source and written within the structure of the text. In the APA style, parentheses are used within the text instead of footnotes or at the end of the text, as in other styles. It is suggested to follow the following guidelines:
Direct or textual quoting
1) If the quote is less than 40 words, it is written inside the text and between quotation marks. At the end of the quote, the author’s surname, year of publication and page from where it was extracted is included in parentheses.
The citation is done in two ways, as exemplified below:
• If the name of the author is part of the quote, as follows:
Fuller (2000, p.36) understands paternity as a "field of cultural and social practices and meanings around reproduction, the bond that is established or not with progeny and the care of children".
• If the name of the author is not part of the quote, as follows:
The objective of cultural studies "is to give voice to those who have not had it". (Stripaut, 2007, p.28).
2) When the quote has more than 40 words, it is written in a separate text, with a 1.5 indent on both sides, one point size smaller, without italics and omitting the quotation marks:
Puyana and Mosquera (2005) from three trends (traditional, in transition and rupture) in which they frame the social representations, meanings and practices of maternity and paternity in Bogotá, emphasize the relationship between these meanings and practices, and gender relationships. In each of the three trends, the authors find that:
Fatherhood and motherhood mean the transformation of personal qualities by reason of gender. Among men, their situation in this regard is associated with the model of masculinity they have built. The most traditional, to that way of being a man that inhibits the expression of affections; whereas the parents in transition and rupture, while building paternity in the midst of a greater affective approach with the children, have modify their style of being a man. (p 19)
Paraphrase or abstract
In the paraphrase or abstract, the author writes within the text in his own words. There is no need to write the citation in quotation marks, include it in a separate paragraph or mention the page, only the author and the date:
Connell (2005) states that masculinity does not respond to a single meaning but is a changing category, which is constructed through social interaction and individual experience.
