THE GRANDMOTHERS OF PLAZA DE MAYO, A STORY OF LOVE AND RESISTANCE

En el presente artículo se realiza una reflexión acerca de porqué podemos considerar a las abuelas de Plaza de Mayo como un ejemplo de amor y resistencia para el mundo. En tres apartados se describen la situación política y social en Argentina entre 1976 y 1983, tiempo de la dictadura militar; la lucha de las abuelas de plaza de mayo por encontrar a sus hijos y nietos desaparecidos; y la búsqueda de verdad y resarcimiento de sus seres queridos en los años posteriores a la dictadura. En el documento se muestra que estas mujeres son un ejemplo de amor y resistencia porque, a pesar de comprometer su propia integridad personal, buscaron a sus familiares sin importar las amenazas, ataques y desapariciones de las que ellas mismas fueron víctimas. Solas, mediante protestas pacíficas, estas mujeres lograron hacer visible para el mundo que en Argentina se estaban cometiendo crímenes de lesa humanidad contra la población civil.

This paper reflects on the grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo as an example of love and resistance to the world. I describe the political and social situation in Argentina between 1976 and 1983, the time of the military dictatorship; the struggle of the grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo to find their disappeared children and grandchildren; and the search for truth and compensation for their loved ones in the years after the dictatorship. The document shows that these women are an example of love and resistance because, despite
deteriorating their own personal apparatus, they searched for their relatives regardless of the threats, attacks and disappearances of which they themselves were victims. Alone, through peaceful protests, these women managed to make visible to the world that crimes against humanity were being committed in Argentina against the civilian population.
