THE IMPORTANCE OF OPENLY DISCUSSING SEXUAL EDUCATION WITH YOUR CHILDREN

En el presente artículo se busca dar a conocer, por qué el acompañamiento de padres de familia y/o acudientes es importante en la educación sexual de sus hijos. Los padres tienden a evitar involucrarse en la charla de este tema o a delegarlo completamente a otras instancias como el colegio, ocasionando consecuencias en la vida sexual de sus hijos a futuro, tales como embarazos no deseados y el mal manejo de estos (en ciertas ocasiones), cambios indeseados en los proyectos de vida, enfermedades de transmisión sexual (ETS) y abandono de estudios. Sabiendo que los padres tienen gran influencia en la formación de sus hijos, es notable que la comunicación es un eje central de esta; por tanto, se hablará sobre el impacto de la vergüenza y los tabús en la comunicación. Para esto existen recomendaciones a seguir para conseguir una comunicación efectiva.

In this article we are going to talk about the importance of parental accompaniment in the sexual education of children. As parents tend to avoid getting involved in the sexual education of their children and not talk about the topic , causing consequences in the children´s future sexual life, for example unwanted pregnancies and mismanagement of them, unexpected life changes, sexual transmission diseases (STDs) and school dropout. Knowing that parents have a big influence on their children’s formation and recognizing communication as a central axis, we are going to address the impact that shame and taboos can have in communication among parents and children. To solve this, there are some recommendations that can be followed to have effective communication.
