This study analyzes the perception of child abuse in the general population, considering sex, age, and parenthood. The aim of the study is to understand participants’ perceptions of the factors that can trigger abuse and their degree of awareness of the issue. The sample consists of 794 participants. The results show that socioeconomic status is considered the most important risk factor, followed by children’s behavior. There is a similar perception between men and women, with slight differences; younger individuals and those without children seem to exhibit greater sensitivity. Furthermore, behaviors associated with minor forms of active abuse (shouting, insults, slapping, etc.) appear to continue being justified as disciplinary mechanisms. These data will help adjust preventive actions for each group based on their beliefs.
