In the current context, artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming various sectors, including academic libraries, through the automation and personalization of information services. This article reviews recent literature to explore these applications. The main objective is to analyze how AI can enhance efficiency in resource management and the personalization of services in academic libraries.

Methodologically, a systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted in Scopus and Web of Science (WoS), focusing on articles published between 2019 and 2024. Bibliometric and keyword co-occurrence analyses were performed using tools such as VOSviewer® to build a detailed state of the art.

The findings indicate that AI can significantly reshape information services in libraries. The automation of routine tasks, such as cataloging and information retrieval, reduces errors and improves operational efficiency, while AI-based recommendation systems provide more effective personalization to meet user needs.

However, implementation faces challenges related to technological infrastructure, resource availability, and staff training. AI holds the potential to improve both efficiency and personalization in library services, but its adoption requires overcoming technological and resource barriers. Future research should focus on strategies for integrating AI in resource-limited libraries and on exploring the relationship between organizational capabilities and the success of service personalization.
