Educational Tourism Proposal with an Experiential Emphasis: the Academic Route of the Emerald in Muzo, Boyacá
Abstract (en)
We propose the definition and development of a business model for the provision of educational tourism services with an experiential emphasis, which is validated by means of a pilot proposal for a first tourism product: The academic route of the emerald in Muzo, Boyacá. This was developed through an analysis and segmentation of the tourism sector market, in which the creation of tourism experiences with an academic approach was identified as a business opportunity, with a niche market in academic tourism using a practical and experiential approach as part of the generation of knowledge for trainee audiences. The business model presented projects a wide potential due to the diversity of places and attractions in Colombia, which allow the creation and positioning of experiences, products and tourist destinations in the country. These experiences focused on providing learning opportunities for academic and collaborative purposes with different industries, whose demand is not widely met in a specialised manner by the business environment. The segment chosen for the realisation of this business plan are academic institutions of higher education in Colombia and Spanish-speaking countries, which offer professional careers, postgraduate courses, courses, technologies and others related to the following fields: geosciences, engineering related to mining, gemology, geology, environmental, cadastral, sociology and related fields. The total market demand, in this case, was chosen from the total number of students enrolled in the following categories: Technical, technological, university, specialisation, master's and doctoral degrees.
