Moral Career and the Meanings of Money in Sexual Work: The Case of Bogota, Colombia
Abstract (en)
Based on ethnographic data, this paper propounds an analysis of the way in which the spheres of intimacy and market, of sexuality and emotions, are weaved together within, or through, the logic of sexual commerce. By means of examining the way in which money is socially constructed and at the moral hierarchies it produces, this paper inquires which are the structural and emotional conditions that surround the personal and work-related experiences of women who work or used to work in sexual commerce and who percieve themselves as sexual workers. To this end, we have gathered a series of narratives of sexual workers from the city of Bogotá who advocate for the acknowledgement of their labor rights.

A partir de datos etnográficos, se plantea un análisis de la forma en la que se entraman en la lógica del comercio sexual, o a través de él, las esferas de la intimidad y el mercado, de la sexualidad y la afectividad. Se explora, mediante una mirada a la forma en la que se construye socialmente el dinero y las jerarquías morales que produce, cuáles son las condiciones estructurales y afectivas en torno a experiencias personales y laborales de mujeres que participan o participaron en el comercio sexual y que se perciben a sí mismas como trabajadoras sexuales. Para esto, se recolectan una serie de narrativas de trabajadoras sexuales de la ciudad de Bogotá, que abogan por el reconocimiento de sus derechos laborales.
